Reservations or Booking of Campsites in Botswana National Parks (DWNP)
With the privatization of campsites by the DWNP, there is a new complicated procedure to
booking campsites. Currently, 3 different companies have been awarded management
and operation of campsites in Moremi, Savute, Chobe, Kalahari / CKGR, and Khutse.
There will be additional campsites awarded in the future.
To skip to campsite information that you are interested in, Type Ctrl F, and type in key
word - example: Savute Scroll or click on Find Next to go to each highlighted Savute
entry.
Effective immediately. Several DWNP campsites have been privatised. DWNP
Park Entry Fees are still applicable, to the DWNP, plus booking fees of the
private companies.
Anyone who has prepaid fees in advance of the handover of management and
operation of campsites to private companies do not need to pay any
additional campsite fees. Regardless if your bookings extend into 2010.
Those people with confirmed bookings, but not prepaid, from the DWNP,
please be patient. I am attempting to discover if any additional campsite fees
will be required.
Each company is in control of their private campsite, but people are still
required to purchase day entry permits for each day/night in the park.
Additionally, Xakanaxa and South Gate have been privatised, but the companies who were
awarded these have not yet taken over the bookings. PARRO is anticipating that this
will be happen in the next two weeks or so.

June/July 2010 holiday accommodation almost fully booked within 2 hours
SANParks Media Release July 1, 2009- This suggests you should
consider making your Botswana safari plans soon!!!
.
Reservations for campsites currently seems to require booking
11 months in advance for high and shoulder seasons in most
popular parks. October 4, 2009
.
Bookings with Botswana DWNP for August 2010 is open during the
1st week of September 2009. For Moremi, reservations for
campsites in June and July 2010 is fully booked. August 6, 2009
If you haven't made reservations for high season by now, Botswana DWNP
has indicated that campsite availability is closed till October. This excludes
the usual late cancellations and unused paid reservations. Updated 28/6/09
There is just 24 campsites in Moremi and 10 in Savute available to the public
and the many tour operators (not members of HATAB or BOGA). You
should attempt to make reservations one year in advance to enable a
reasonable chance of getting the itinerary you want during the high season.
Demand for 2010 campsites and 4x4s hire has started early. Most likely due to
the World Cup.

Efffective 2009, the parks need to be paid in advance, camping as
well as entrance fees. This can be arranged through their offices in
Gaborone, Maun, Kasane, Francistown, Thsabong, Ghanzi, Kang,
and Letlhakane.
Payments are no longer made at the Park Gates. You are not allowed to pay at any National Park gate (except Chobe-Sedudu Gate) for any service.

Tsabong (once the machine has been installed)

Letlhakane and Ghanzi Wildlife offices.
Visitors to Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi and Nxai
Pan National Parks can pay in Gaborone, Francistown, Letlhakane, Maun and
Kasane Wildlife offices.
.
Paying via Credit Card and International bank draft remains possible
like before. Payments at the gate will no longer be accepted.Credit
Card machines have also been installed at these offices where tourists have
an option of paying using Visa and MasterCard credit cards only.
.
Park gate times:
April-September > 06:00 - 18:30
October - March > 05:00 - 19:00
No driving is allowed outside the above hours.
Enter into a National Park at anytime between normal gate hours.
Departure must be before 11:00AM following your last overnight in the park, or
